48 hours in the Isle of Wight

This weekends trip took me to the Isle of Wight! Despite the horrendously early wake up call (5.45!) we made our way to Portsmouth to catch our ferry.

We traveled by car but traveling on foot is just as easy with buses, train-links and a foot ferry from Portsmouth. Feeling more adventurous? Try out the hoverbus which can get you from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight in a speedy 10 minutes!

First stop Osbourne House…

East Cowes, North of the Island

Adult: £16.20, Child (5-15): £9.70, Concession: £14.60, English Heritage Members: Free

If you are a fan of architecture, interiors or royal history then this is the place to visit. Built for Queen Victoria between 1845 and 1851, Prince Albert designed the house and gardens in the style of an Italian Renaissance Palazzo.

One of the top features in the house is the Indian-inspired dining room that boasts ornate wood carvings on the walls and ceilings.

After your visit, walk through the grounds to Osbourne Bay and relax in a deck chair on the beach

Evening at Shanklin Chines

Exploring the Needles

The Needles, West of the Island

One of the Isle of Wight’s most popular attractions, The Needles has activities for all ages. One of the most popular being the chairlift down to the beach.

For some of the best views of the needles, visit The Needles Battery. A 20 minute walk from the car park along the cliffs.
